Skimboarding: an Introduction
August 25, 2009 by K12Genie Staff
It’s summer and there’s still time to get to the beach. Are you looking to try something new? How about Skimboarding?
Skimboarding is fun sport similar to surfing but closer to shore. According to skimonline.com, here are the basics.
- The skimboarder stands 20 feet from the ocean with skimboard in hand.
- When a wave comes, the skimboarder runs towards it.
- Upon reaching the wet sand, they drop the board and jump on it as quickly as possible.
- Once on the board, the skimmer must remain stable and prepare for a transition into the ocean.
- The skimmer glides into the ocean towards the incoming wave, banks off it, and rides it back to shore.
Here are some videos showing you more about the sport. Be sure to check the additional resource links at the bottom of this post.
