Article Submission FAQ
1. Can I submit something to K12Genie?
Yes. Submissions are welcome. Email them to submissions@k12genie.com.
2. What types of submissions does K12Genie accept?
We are looking for the following types of submissions:
- Reviews of books, songs, video games, movies, and other products or services that may be of interest to other K12Genie readers
- Articles such as personal stories from students, parents, educators, or relatives. Some examples are:
- Your experience being the editor of your high school paper
- Your experience teaching in a classroom (for the first time, or the last time)
- Your first year as a freshman in high school
- A story about your transition from high school to college
- A story about your experience as an exchange student
- Etc. - Articles that discuss an organization you work with that helps students and parents or teachers
- Recipes that are good for families or kids
- Gardening tips
- Home decorating tips
- Comments and feedback
- Party planning tips for kids
- Travel articles or tips
- A photo essay

3. Are there categories of articles/submissions?
The K12Genie staff will select the category most appropriate for your submission. However, keep these headings in mind:
- Arts & Entertainment (Books, Movies, Music, Toys, TV, Video Games)

- Family & Relationships
- Family Activities
- Food & Nutrition

4. Who can submit something?
We welcome contributions from students, parents, educators and coaches, experts in their field, family members, and the larger community. Regardless of who sends us material, the subject matter must be relevant to the K-12 community of stakeholders. Please include two to three sentences about yourself with your article.
5. Are there incentives for submissions?
We will sometimes have special incentives for submissions. Currently, we do not offer payment for articles.
6. What information needs to be included in a submission?
- Your first name*
- Your last name
- Your grade level
- Your age if you are a K-12 student
- Your city
- State*
- Article title
- Your article text (please limit to 2000 words)*
- Photos or video (encouraged, but not required)
- Captions for photos along with photo credits
- Two to three sentences about yourself
Please help us by making sure that your submission has at least the items marked with *. Email your submissions to submissions@k12genie.com. Please write “Article” in the subject line.
7. In what format should my article be?
Please submit your letter or article within the email body as plain text or as an attachment in an editable format.
8. What is the maximum size of a photo or video?
Photos should be no larger than 1 MB each and should be jpeg, gif, or tiff formats. Videos should be no longer than 5 minutes or 1 GB and should be wmv, mpeg2, or mpeg4 format. A photo essay should have no more than 10 photographs. We will resize photos as necessary.
9. Will K12Genie change or edit my work?
We will try not to change your submission if possible. However, for space or clarity, we may need to make some edits and reserve the right to do so.
10. Who owns the work that is submitted?
You continue to own your article. However, by submitting materials to us, you grant K12Genie, Inc. and our affiliates, royalty-free, unrestricted rights to use it. We may delete or remove any such material from our website or records at any time. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information.
11. Can I send a YouTube video?
Yes, we can imbed videos you have uploaded to YouTube. Just send us the link to your YouTube video or the actual HTML and we’ll take care of the rest.
12. What if I have a video I want to upload that isn’t already on YouTube?
You can email us the video and we’ll convert the file and upload it.
13. Are there restrictions on what I can send?
Yes. We will not post submissions that violate our Terms of Use or Privacy Policies. We also reserve the right not to post items that are in bad taste or we feel are not in keeping with the intent of the K12Genie website.
14. What happens once I submit my article?
Submissions will be reviewed as we get them. If your posting doesn’t have a picture or video to go with it, we may select or create one to go with it. If we don’t approve it for posting on the site, we’ll let you know. If we do approve it for posting, we’ll let you know that too.
15. How long will it take till I see my submission posted on the site?
You should see your submission on the site within one week from submission date if not sooner. We do not guarantee that all items will be posted.
16. Will my personal information appear online with the article?
The information you include in #6 above will be included. Your email address will NOT be posted.
